Rock Retreat Run is a unique women’s running retreat that brings together active women who seek personal growth, fearless connection, and the latest info about health and fitness.
Help us welcome our 2017 Rock Retreat Run keynote speakers!
These women exemplify resilience, strength and living courageously.
Meet RRR keynote speaker Alysia Montaño
“My life philosophy has been to be bold and courageous.”
Alysia wears a flower in every race she competes in. “The flower to me means strength with femininity,” Montaño said in June after winning the 800m at the U.S. Olympic Trials. “I think that a lot of people say things like you run like a girl. That doesn’t mean you have to run soft or you have to run dainty. It means that you’re strong.”
We’ll host an honest and real conversation with Alysia around resilience and lessons learned from adversity, as well as finding the courage and clarity to chase dreams, take risks, speak up and do it her way. And she’s leading us through a workout – #wootwoot!Best of all? She’s real. She’s an ordinary woman with an extraordinary gift. And she’s going to remind all of you that you have a gift too… you just need to have the courage to unwrap it and let it be seen.
Meet RRR keynote speaker Kelly Roberts
We are soooooo excited to announce that Kelly Roberts (aka, Run, Selfie, Repeat) is coming to Rock Retreat Run! We’ll be talking strength + self-worth and changing the representation of women’s bodies in the media.
“Strength doesn’t look a certain way, it feels a certain way.”
YAAAASSSSS. Let’s talk about THAT.
Did you see the July issue of Women’s Running Magazine? Then you saw Kelly’s awesome cover and you got to learn about her mission to inspire women to embrace a healthy lifestyle and pursue the strongest version of themselves possible. She created the blog Run Selfie Repeat as a way to inspire others and share her story and frankly, make people laugh and find some joy in the journey. She’s chased gutsy goals, stayed brave amidst adversity and from our conversations with her, she’s learned a lot in the process. She’s honest, real and imperfect and she reminds all of us that redemption and second chances are sometimes the most courageous parts of our story. We believe Kelly’s story and mission are exactly what women need to hear and believe right now. Strength, self-worth, a positive body image and second chances… those are conversations that build the sisterhood. (Also, if you aren’t following her on Instagram, GO DO THAT RIGHT NOW!)
Meet RRR keynote speaker Erica Hill
Since the moment we met Erica, we felt it. The ease, the connection and the feeling of, ‘wow, she’s just like us.’
When we met her back in April 2015 for our TODAY Show taping, sure, we were excited about the segment and the awareness it would bring to Fellow Flowers. Honestly though, it has been the friendship we’ve developed with her since that is by far the most precious outcome of that experience. We’ve watched Erica evolve in her profession (and she’s killing it btw) but more so, in her journey of living a life that truly matters. Amidst the hustle of hosting On The Story over at CNN/Headline News and being immersed in the lives of her two young boys, she is a runner. And like many of us, she loves running because it offers clarity amidst challenging times and connects her with so many of her friends, near and far. And, she wears a flower proudly and knows what they all mean… because, ladies, SHE GETS IT.
Meet RRR keynote speaker Kelly Herron
You may know Kelly as the Seattle runner with the battle cry “NOT TODAY M**F****!” who survived a horrific attack in a public bathroom while training for her first marathon. She vividly remembers the fear-turned-defiant rage as she fought her attacker. She clawed, punched, kicked and throughout the entire ordeal, she screamed “Not today M**F**er!” Not only did she escape, but she also locked him in the bathroom until the police arrived. (So badass.)
Just three weeks prior, Kelly had taken a self-defense class and credits the lessons she learned as the reason she was able to fight back and escape. Everything she learned, she applied and it saved her life.
She’ll be bringing her story of resilience to RRR and as she told us in conversation, “Part of the reason I share my story is to encourage other women to share theirs. We don’t have to be silent, and we need to eliminate the shame that keeps women from speaking up. We think we’re alone and I have learned that we are most certainly not.”

Rock Retreat Run was created to provide an inclusive space for women runners and those looking to make positive, healthy shifts in their lives. Over the past two years in both Scottsdale, Arizona, and Traverse City, Michigan, our intuitive hunch and big dream was met with an overwhelmingly positive, sold-out response. Last year, over 250 women attended and we delivered not just an event, but a story. Through intentional messaging, engaging speakers and authentic experiences, we brought to life our vision of an inclusive space for women who run to share ideas and stories, learn and become inspired, discuss trends and challenges, and above all, create soul-filling connections and memories.
Our 2017 event will build upon the success and excitement of the last two years, expanding to 300 attendee spots. Last year, we focused on encouraging women to rise up and step into their true selves. This year, we will ask women how they can be game changers in their own lives and beyond. We will be motivating women to commit to, and work toward, their dreams through interactive sessions, panel discussions and speakers. We are asking women what they are willing to do to create lives they love, and providing them with the resources, inspiration and tools to get them started on this path. We will also offer numerous opportunities to stretch, sweat, run, work out, and have fun!
What past attendees remember…
“Able to be me.”
“The perfect mix of fun, running, and learning.”
“It was unlike anything else I have ever experienced; I will never be able to put its impact on me into words.”
“Every woman was real and authentic. It was amazing.”
“I came alone, and I left connected.”
“The food, the cocktails, the gifts, the surprises —UNREAL! It blew me away how detailed everything was.”
“Mel and Tori are the real deal. True, authentic, and they gave every part of their heart and soul to this weekend. Because they show up as themselves, it empowered all of us to do the same.”
“Completely 100% worth every penny. I won’t hesitate for one second to sign up again next year. This is the best investment in myself I have ever made.”
“If ever there was a space that combined all the things I love—amazing friendships, running, fun and cocktails, learning, and DANCING—it is Rock Retreat Run.”

To the woman who is wondering if this event is for her…
Here’s the deal.
As women runners with a passion for improving our lives physically and emotionally—all while not taking ourselves too seriously and having fun in the process—we could not find an experience that celebrated all the things we love. Can you combine hardcore interval training workouts with late night dance floor shenanigans? You sure can! Can you dive deep into your own personal growth while still making time for new friendships and laughter? Yes. Can you learn the art of fueling your body with all of life’s necessary and beautiful ingredients while still sipping on savory cocktails? Heck yes!
And as much as Rock Retreat Run is about fun, it packs a huge punch when it comes to speakers, programming and content. We know you want to learn and become inspired. We know you want running tips and engaging personal discoveries. We’ve got you covered. Our sessions range from big picture topics such as learning how to own and share your story, achieving personal growth, and creating healthy lifestyle habits. to nitty-gritty info about running techniques, nutrition, and essential oils. Our speakers are authentic, real, and often found in deep discussion with attendees, and they range from seasoned experts to national leaders to emerging voices.
Okay, now here’s the REAL deal.
(Let’s get honest, shall we?) You’ve probably read all of this text and while every little piece of you is saying OMG, YES! YES! YES! to this event, you’re still probably hearing a little voice inside of you that is rationally trying to talk you out of it.
We’re so good at that, aren’t we?
It’s incredibly easy to listen to the voice of fear and self-doubt, whether yours is talking about showing up alone, fitting in, doing something new, or unapologetically putting yourself first. Fear is really good at keeping us in our comfort zones and talking us out of much-needed change. Fear can be the expected in-your-face kind, and it can also be a little sneaky. It’ll disguise itself as the protector, giving us all sorts of logical reasons and valid excuses not to do something. You’re not ready. It costs a lot of money. You won’t know anyone. It’s going to be hard to fit it into the schedule. You’ll have to ask for help ,and you don’t want to put people out like that. You can do it next year when you feel more ready.
We also know that the greater the leap out of the familiar, the louder that fear will roar, “Don’t do it. Don’t do it. Don’t do it.”
But what if you did?
What if you did put yourself out there despite the fear and registered anyway?
We’re all in the same boat here ladies. And we’re all going to have each other’s backs to ensure that every single woman finds that fearless connection and immediately feels that she’s found her tribe. You may arrive alone, but you will leave fiercely united.
2015 attendee Jill puts it pretty perfectly. “I came alone. I planned on being alone, but I was immediately embraced by new friends. The women empowering each other was so beautiful to see, and now I have made friends for life.”
Still not convinced? Take a deep breath and ask yourself this: Will I regret letting this fear talk me out of not going?
There’s your answer.
See you in sunny San Diego! We can’t wait!
– Mel + Tori
P.S. Here’s a picture of the beach too. Because, well, it’s the freaking Pacific Ocean and this will be our view on Friday night. Picture your toes in the ocean. At sunset. With 250 amazing women. With a very, very full heart. BE THERE… you won’t regret it. xo
