The many hats I wear:
Blessed mother to two amazing girls – Alexis and Ali. When Ali was six weeks old, her precious life almost slipped through our fingers. It changed my perspective – on EVERYTHING. Today, my kids and husband come first – my choices, my perspective and my dreams – are centered around them. My husband Jason is my rock star co-pilot in this crazy life. He believes in me, he’s a phenomenal father, he supports my dream chasing and allows me to escape when I need it – whether it’s a Target run, a night with the girls or two hours on the pavement – he gets it. I am the daughter to parents who lovingly fueled my independent streak and passion for writing – they never placed limits on my imagination and I’m forever grateful. I am also the blessed recipient of the tightest sibling bond ever created – they’ve been my go-to source of strength, always.
I’m an athlete – competitive at heart. College hoops were fun but my high school memories reign supreme. Professionally, I’ve had some amazingly cool positions that have involved writing, creating, speaking and bringing ideas to life. I love ideas – I love being on the ground level of something epic. I love making things. I love a challenge. I am a writer – which is something my heart has always whispered and my voice can finally say out loud (insert courage). And now, with Fellow Flowers, it seems I’m an entrepreneur. A new challenge and adventure. A dream becoming reality. Connecting with women, finding myself.
What makes your heart pound?
Witnessing the awe in my little girls’ eyes when they see something new for the very first time. And three vanilla lattes on an empty stomach.
What gets you up in the morning? What keeps you up at night?
In the morning, it’s my girls. At night, it’s my head full of ideas. It. Never. Stops.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Greeting cards. While some women can drop a cool hundred on pretty shoes, I can walk into a stationary store and find pure bliss in paper, cardstock, envelopes and homemade cards. A close second, Young & the Restless – damn you Nick Newman.
What do you say to the woman who says she doesn’t think she can run?
“Hi there, I’d like to introduce you to my mom. She just turned 60 and ran her first 10k this past year.” Nuf said.
How do you want the world to remember you?
A mother who showed her girls what it means to be strong, confident and compassionate. A woman who loved and adored her amazing husband. And that I was true to myself, honest to others and generous to the world.
What running shoe are you most loyal to?
I’m a shoe whore…what can I say…
What’s your go-to flower color and why?
:: Dark Pink :: Because once I realized I was worth my dreams, my dreams became worth it. Stand your ground – realize your power – and life can truly change.
Secret super power?
I kill it at Scrabble. Ask my Dad.
Who inspires you the most?
My siblings. They are my rock…my core. Jeff, Theresa and Rachael, each of whom give their best to the world in phenomenal ways. I am in constant awe of each of them.
What are the five words that best define you?
Mother. Wife. Dreamer. Laughter. Writer.
Caffeinated beverage choice? And how often you do you need one?
Grande Iced Skinny Vanilla Latte. Keep em’ coming.
When I hear people say ‘I should’ over and over and over again. Come on people – quit saying it – just freakin do it. Don’t should all over yourself.
And, ahem, when people invite me to play Farmville on Facebook. It’ll never happen people!
Travel destination on this earth that’s calling your name?
India. I’ve heard it’s epic.
Why do you run?
Preventative muffin top. To set my ideas free. Time in my head. For my girls to see me strong. It’s good for my soul.
The time of day that I love to run the most is…
Under the nighttime stars. My body always feels more alive and stronger.
What’s the life lesson you want to pass on to your children?
Don’t spend a lifetime convincing yourself that your dreams aren’t worth chasing. Be good to your knees. Be generous. When your gut instinct tells you to say yes, listen.
First words that come to your mind when you think of crossing a finish line?
There better be a cold beer at the end of this thing…cause this girl is ready to celebrate! And where’s Dave Mari with the freakin camera!!!
