As we honored the victims, families and the Sandy Hook Community this past Saturday, I found myself continuously reflecting on the meanings of each of the Fellow Flowers. When a certain feeling would take over, I kept pulling lines from the statement cards as a way to help me understand the overwhelming grief that filled my soul, all the while knowing that if my heart was this heavy, I couldn’t begin to imagine the weight of theirs.
These expressions were the words I needed to hear….they became reminders for myself and the things I wanted Newtown, CT to know as I embarked on 2.6 miles for them. They were all of the reasons I was out there. Ten beautiful colors helped guide and push my every step, deepening my journey and offering me serene clarity..
/Yellow/ :: I run because I get to. Appreciating the sunshine that peeked out as we began.
/White/ :: New beginnings. To show grace and courage. Doing it scared.
/Pink/ :: To endure against the odds. To honor a hero. To connect and unite. Because this is so much bigger than me.
/Dark Pink/ :: Purpose. Realizing your strength.
/Black/ :: Resilient spirit. Strong.
/Red/ :: Love. Caring for the world around you.
/Purple/ :: No excuses. I’m doing this anyway. No MATTER what.
/Green/ :: Courage. Perseverance
/Blue/ :: Fully present
/Orange/ :: Fiercely United. Marching on…one foot in front of the other. For health, for hope, for each other. To love and protect. Always.
Although we can never give back what the families of the Sandy Hook community lost, Fellow Flowers thanks everyone from a deep place in our hearts …for showing genuine compassion, hope and love with your own 2.6 journey. The united response, voices, photos and meaningful messages have overwhelmed us in the most beautiful way. We will lovingly collect each and every one and share them with Sandy Hook in the coming days.
